Anri of Italy "Our Puppy"Limited Carving 50/2000 by Sarah Kay - image 1 of 8

The Anri company, founded by Anton Riffeser in 1912 in Val Gardena, South Tyrol, Northern Italy, is world-renowned for its hand carved and hand painted figurines. Anton Riffeser named the company Anri using the first two letters of his first and last name.

The creator of this fabulous Anri carving is renowned artist Sarah Kay. A housewife in a suburb of Sidney, Australia, Sarah Kay had always been fond of drawing. She had studied at an Art Academy and at the age of 20 she had started working for an advertising agency. The designs which brought her great success, however, were made during a period of great anxiety: her little daughter, Allison, was badly ill and to distract herself, Sarah Kay began to draw. She designed happy children in a peaceful environment like the one she had known herself on her grandparents farm. The overwhelming success of her designs may be due to the fact that they remind people of their own childhood. Sarah Kay's designs are magnificently converted into wooden figurines by Master Sculptor Ulrich Bernard

This wonderful, limited edition carving, circa 1980's - early 1990's, entitled "Our Puppy" depicts a young girl hold a puppy in her arms while the puppy's mother sits watchfully at the girls feet. The carving, which stands 7 1/4" in height, is marked on the back of the base "Sarah Kay". The bottom has the pewter button "Anri" with copyright symbol; black ink stamp "Design, copyright symbol and Valentine" and is impressed 50/2000. There are no chips, cracks or repairs; the paint is excellent. Great "Anri" carving.
