A.H.Heisey & Company of Newark, Ohio, first introduced the "Orchid" etched pattern in 1940 and it continued in production until the Heisey Company closed in 1957. During this time the "Orchid" pattern became Heisey's most popular etching.
This lovely round sandwich plate with handles is etched on Heisey Blank #1401 known as Empress. The plate measures 12" across the center and 14 1/4" from handle-to-handle. There is a faint "H" diamond mark in the center of the plate. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; there are numerous utensil marks that are event when held to the light. A beautiful and graceful pattern for all ages.
