A wonderful English covered sugar bowl, circa 1845-1870, in a classic gothic shape. It is hand decorated with delicate soft green leaves with purple stems and feathery flowers. Additional purple lines and scrolls adorn the lobe handles and finial on the domed lid. The entire body is faintly embosses with arches, ribs and scrolls.
The sugar bowl measures 7" in height, 6 1/2" from handle-to-handle and rest on a 4" base. The only markings on the base is two letters, an 'H' and a 'L' or '7'. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; two minor rough spots on the inter rim of the sugar bowl (see photo). A lovely piece that would make a wonderful candy container.
