Fireglow was manufactured by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company. The light-tan-colored glass appears reddish brown when held to the light. Most fireglow has an acid finish and enamel decoration, although it was also made with a satin finish. Fireglow pieces are often vases, but can also be tumblers, bride's baskets, and pitchers.
This set of 3 tumblers, circa 1880-1900, are a wonderful malt-tan color with an acid finish. Each are hand painted with an all around motif of five-pedal flowers, unopened buds, large leaves and grassy foliage in a royal blue enamel with white highlights. The tumblers measure 3 3/4" in height and 2 5/8" across the top. The opaque glass is rather heavy and varies in thickness up to 1/8". There are no cracks, chips or repairs; one tumbler has a slight nick along the top edge of the rim (see photo). Have a another matching set of 3 tumblers in my store on which the blue enamel is slightly darker than this set.
