This is a fantastic set of 6 Kutani porcelain dessert plates, circa 1900, from the late Meiji period which ran from 1868-1913.
The plates are profusely decorated with hand-painted images of a pair of peacocks, chrysanthemum blossoms, delicate foliage, buildings with Mt. Fuji and flying swallows all done in a pallet of soft reds, pinks, grays, tans, yellow and black against the white porcelain background. Most of the decoration is outlined and highlighted with gold. The red borders are decorated with a delicate gold Japanese design.
The plates measure 7 1/4" across and are signed in red on the base. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A great set of plates for special use or decor.
