Nippon generally refers to Japanese wares made during the period of 1891 - 1921. Nippon, meaning Japan, identified the country of origin to comply with American importation restrictions.
This lovely rectangular recessed dresser tray is decorated with a wide border of bunches of delicate pastel pink and blue five-pedal flowers nestled among soft green leaves, all outline with gold enamel. Connecting the floral bunches is a yellow ribbon decorated with raised ribbing and tiny gold beads. The edge is also edged with a gold band and beads, as well as a gold medallion in the center of the tray The tray measures 12 1/2" in length, 7 3/4" in width and 7/8" in depth.
Stamped in red with the "M" within a wreath and "Hand Painted Nippon". The "M" designates the Morimura Brothers, distributors with offices in New York. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Stunning.
