Pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker; also known as pokerwork or wood burning. The term means "writing with fire", from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing).
This wonderful arts and crafts era folding/expandable book rack, circa 1900-1915, is decorated on each end with the image of a Native American. On the edges of the base is inscribed the motto "Choose An Author As You Choose A Friend". The rack measures 15 3/4" in length, 5 3/4" across and 5 1/2" in height. It expands to 25 1/2" in length. The ends fold down for easy storage when not in use. There are no damages or repairs. Sharp, detailed images and motto.
