Pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker; also known as pokerwork or wood burning. The term means "writing with fire", from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing).
This wonderful arts and crafts era folding book rack, circa 1900-1915, is decorated on each end and in the center of the base with the image of two owls sitting side-by-side on a tree branch. The rack measures 15" in length, 6" across and 6" in height. The ends fold down for easy storage when not in use. There are no damages or repairs; minor crack on underneath side of the base.
