In 1883 two brothers, Alfred and Frederick Johnson, purchased a defunct pottery known as Charles Street Works in Hanley, England. By the end of the 1890's Johnson Brothers may have been the largest earthenware manufacturer in the world.

The "Stanley" Flow Blue China pattern, circa 1900, has a wide border of scrolls, floral and geometric designs with gold highlights. The gently scalloped shape of the plates has an embossed pleated edge. These luncheon plates measure 8" across. One of the plates has a small under-edge chip which barely impacts the edge. There are no other cracks, chips or repairs; some light utensil marks. They are each stamped "Stanley - 'Crown Mark' - Johnson Bros. - England - Pat. Nov 7 '99". Lovely set.
