It was in central Europe that the artist Boleslaw Cybis, (1895-1957), founder of the Cybis Porcelain spent most of is youth. The Cybis Porcelain Company was founded in he early 1940's and has become world famous as America's oldest porcelain art studio for museum quality sculptures of world-class art.
This lovely Madonna sculpture is part of the Biblical Collection introduced in 1968 by Cybis Porcelains Studios; the figure was retired in 1969 making it quite difficult to find. The gown is soft white with pastel blue accents to the head covering. The angelic facial features include pale blonde tint to hair and eyes with just a hint of pink on the lips. The bust is mounted on a wooden plinth measuring 3 3/4" in length and 2 1/4" in width. The figure, including base, stands 6 1/4" in height. It is stamped near the base "Cybis" with the copyright insignia. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Beautiful.
