It was in central Europe that the artist Boleslaw Cybis, (1895-1957), founder of the Cybis Porcelain spent most of is youth. The Cybis Porcelain Company was founded in he early 1940's and has become world famous as America's oldest porcelain art studio for museum quality sculptures of world-class art.
In the Cybis book, this lovely piece is pictured with the following written: Windflower "Long ago one of the Gods, following the chase, saw and fell in love with a beautiful lady. But she dreamed only of her True-Love who had ridden away to go round the world with the East Wind, promising - 'With the West Wind I will come back to you.' The beautiful lady turned her face away from the God, while her little dog barked and snapped at him. So the God turned her into a Windflower, where she still bends after the West Wind, watching and waiting for her True-Love's return. Her little dog he turned into a ladybug, and you may still see him there on an adjacent leaf.
This lovely Cybis figurine is a beautiful Spring wildflower blossom in pastel pink with long white stem with shaded green leaves and on one leaf is a orange-red lady bug with black spots. The flower clings to a white branch for support. The figure measures 6" in length and 7 3/4" in height. It is stamped "Cybis" with the copyright insignia. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Lovely
