The frosted Ribbon pattern was manufactured by Bakewell, Pears and Company, Pittsburgh, PA, in the late 1870's. Made in non-flint, clear, the ribbon stripes were machine ground, rather than acid finished to give the appearance of frosting. The pattern consists of vertical ribbons, alternating between clear and frosted. The spouts, handles, finials and bases are always clear.
This small open compote measures 6" across and 3 1/4" in height. It may originally had a cover as there is an internal edge in the bowl. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Nice size.
