The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French families connected with the Limoges porcelain industry. Jean Pouyat's grandfather has a faience factory in the 1760's.
This beautiful hand painted cabinet plate was created in a home-studio environment, circa 1915. The motif is colorful morning glory blossoms is shades of light pink, red, light to darker pink and medium blue with pink, nestled among leaf laden vines and tendrils of dark, medium and light green. The background is a mottled medium to pale blue-green.
The plate measures 8 1/2" across and has a narrow gold edge. The stamp is mark #5 in green "J P over L over France" circa 1894-1931, designating the Jean Pouyat Limoges Company. There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
