Bobble head figures were first believed to be referenced in 1842 in the short story "The Overcoat" by writer Nikolai Gogol. In the early 20th century bobble heads were constructed of heavy molded paper mache. The figures often have over-sized heads attached to the body by a spring.
This fantastic German bobble head, circa 1930, is in the formation of a rabbit dressed in a band uniform and playing a drum. Standing on a light green tinted base the rabbit is dressed in a pastel pink uniform with black collar, white shirt and blue bow tie. The drum is decorated in black and gold. This over-sized, brown tinted head has a priceless expression, huge black eyes, nose and round red mouth. He is wearing a large red hat with his large brown ears pointed upward. He stands and impressive 10" in height. There is a mechanism in his head what tingles when the head moves. Stamped "Germany" on the base with the original price of 25 cents. The condition is excellent considering age and paper mache construction. There is some separation cracks in the base, several tiny nicks on the body and creases in both ears; see photos. An advanced piece for the paper mache, bobble head or rabbit collector.
