The Royal Doulton Company has been producing porcelains, ceramics and dinnerware for approximately two hundred years. From a meager beginning in 1815, John Doulton amassed one of the largest pottery and porcelain factories the world has even know.
This wonderful polychrome decorated plate is from the Rustic England series of multi-color English county scenes, circa 1936-1960. It depicts a gentleman sitting out-of-doors in the process of mending the rush-seat on one of the family's household chairs. His wife and young daughter watch quietly. In the background is a lovely country cottage with garden, wooden pump from which to get water, wagon load of hay and rolling fields near the horizon. The polychrome earth-tone shades are very pleasing and restful. The plate measures 10 1/4" across. It is marked with the Royal Doulton logo, "Made in England - Royal Doulton England - Rustic England - D,5694. - Regd, Australia. 16306//7/8". There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
