Jacob H. Stouffer was born in Adeline, Illinois. He opened his decorating studio in Chicago in 1905 which continued until 1952. The high period of Stouffer hand painted china appears to have spanned the years from 1905 to 1925. During this time the company employed some of the best decorators of that era.

This stunning hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1906-1914, is decorated in a beautiful pansy floral motif. The pansy floral is done in contrasting shades of crimson, blue, yellow and burnt orange with shaded green leaves and tan fern foliage, The plate has an off-white center and wide mint green border; the colors are separated by a gold scroll design as well as a narrow gold edge. The plate measures 7 3/4" across and is artist signed "JEC"; an unidentified Stouffer decorator. The plate has the manufacturers mark "HR Hutschenreuther Selb Bavaria" and the Stouffer mark #4 in red "Hand Stouffer Painted". There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
