Jacob H. Stouffer was born in Adeline, Illinois. He opened his decorating studio in Chicago in 1905 which continued until 1952. The high period of Stouffer hand painted china appears to have spanned the years from 1905 to 1925. During this time the company employed some of the best decorators of that era.
This lovely hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1905-1907, is decorated with three cartouches of shaded pink and red tea roses, purple trumpet-shaped floral and delicate pastel green foliage. The background shades from a soft, muted yellow/cream to pastel blue with a narrow gold edge. The plate measures 8" across and is unmarked as to blank manufacturer. It is stamped in black "Stouffer Hand Decorated", one of the first used stamps by the Stouffer studio. There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
