The first glasshouse in Gateshead, England, was established by Joseph Sowerby in 1760. The company trademark created in 1876 depicted a Peacock head inspired by their family crest.

This whimsical blue opalescent vase, circa 1890-1920, stands on three ball feet embossed with a bird's claws/talons. Extending upward is the raised figural of a Peacock, perhaps taken from the company's trademark. Between the birds are scrolls and a large flower. The top is pulled upward into spikes of various heights. The vase measures 7 1/2" in height. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Interesting design and great color.
