"Chintz" is the generic name for English china with an overall floral transfer design. This eye-catching china is reminiscent of chintz dress fabric of English gardens in full bloom.

Leonard Lumsden Grimwade, born in Ipswich in 1864, was the driving force behind Grimwades Royal Winton pottery. At the age of 16 he moved to Hanley in North Staffordshire to work as a decorator and modeler in the potteries, however, by the age of 20 and with dynamic enthusiasm and energy he opened his own business. Under various ownerships over the years, the establishment still exists.

This beautiful trio consists of a luncheon plate, cup and saucer. The pattern is called "Hazel", a pattern ablaze with yellow and red roses, yellow daffodils, purple hyacinth and shaded green foliage against a black mottled background. Delicate gold trim on all pieces. The china blank is the Ascot Shape. The luncheon plate measures 8 3/4" across; the saucer is 5 1/2" across and the cup is 2 1/2" in height and 3 1/4" across. The "Hazel" pattern was produced from 1934-1939. There are several varying Grimwade backstamps used; the cups and saucers are all stamped the same; several stamp versions on the luncheon plates (see photos). There are six trios available for sale. No cracks, chips or repairs. Fantastic vintage chintz pieces.
