Celebrating 25 years of Antiquing Bliss
Keller & Guerin Oriental Polychrome Chinoiserie "Timor" Pattern Cabinet Plate - image 1 of 8

The Keller & Guerin Faience Factory was originally founded around 1812. In 1879 the K & G mark was registered. The company switched from faience to English type earthenware around the end of the 19th century.

This lovely Oriental pattern cabinet plate, circa 1900, is the "Timor" pattern. The central motif is from "The Romance of the Western Chamber". The maid, Hung Niang, has carried a message from Ying-Ying, her young mistress, to Mr. Chang asking him to come to her in the garden this evening. The scene depicts Mr. Chang scaling the wall, having dropped his boots before him. Ling-Ling is standing in the garden waiting for his arrival. The plate measures 8" across and is a combination of transfer and hand-applied decoration. Marked in blue "Timor - K G with arrow - Lindville - France"; circa 1890-1920 marking. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; several tiny paint flakes on the outer edge. Great pattern and wonderful colors.
