This lovely early American pressed glass bread tray, non-flint glass, circa 1870's, is the Cupid & Venus/guardian Angel. First produced by the Richards and Hartley Glass Company, Tarentum, PA. in the late 1870's and later by the U.S. Glass Company in 1891. Colors that have been found are clear, amber and some Vaseline.
The bread tray, which could be used for various serving purposes measures 11 1/2" across the handles and 1 1/4" in depth. The embossed center motif is the figures of Cupid and Venus is surrounded by a circle of embossed ribs and beads. A rayed design flows upward to another circle of ribs, beads and loops and finally a rope edging design. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Wonderful early glass pattern.
