Hand painted china is so beautiful and decorative no matter if executed in a factory decorating department, professional studio or home-studio environment. The quality and subject matter of the finished product is what really matters. This fantastic cabinet plate depicts a beautiful girl adorned in a pink checkered and white holiday party dress, standing under a branch of mistletoe suspended by a pink ribbon. The detail and coloration of her outfit and facial features are amazing. Created in a home-studio, circa 1890's, the only thing lacking is an artist signature.
The plate measures 8 1/8" across, with a deep embossed scalloped edge highlighted in gold. The stamped mark is that of Frederic Laternier who began as a Limoges porcelain exporter about 1857. In 1887 his son, Alfred joined the firm. The mark "Limoges, A L with anchor & France" in green is mark L15b, circa 1891-1914; also the light impressed mark "Limoges & A L with anchor" is mark L15d, circa 1890's. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Additional plates from the original set are also in my store. One of a kind whimsical plates.
