A wonderful early English soft paste earthenware plate, circa 1850 - 1870. The polychrome enamels of cobalt blue and burnt orange create a beautiful contrast. The center motif is a large jardiniere or urn containing a floral arrangement of burnt orange flowers with cobalt foliage. The border of the gently scalloped plate repeats the lovely floral motif with a narrow gold edge. The plate measures 8 3/8" across and is unmarked as to maker. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; light overall age-related crazing and gold wear on the edge.
