Lute can generally refer to any plucked string instrument with a neck, either fretted or unfretted, and deep round back from the family of European lutes.
The Red Wing Pottery Company incorporated these images into it's Lute Song pattern of dinner-ware which was produced 1958-1959. The pattern on the platter consists of three different styles of lutes in shades of brown and blue against a brown speckled tan background. The oval platter measures 12 3/4" in length and 8 7/8" in width. The stamp is the stylized Wing and "True China - Red Wing U.S.A. - Hand Painted - 231". There are no cracks, chips or repairs; several minor utensil marks. Could be used for various serving purposes.
