Around 1939 the Griffith Laboratories, Chicago, Illinois, started creating sets of high quality spices, each in its own stylishly designed white glass jar. Each jar was sealed with an airtight cap with a convenient sifter top beneath. Sold through Marshall Fields, Macys and other fine stores. They stopped making the plastic rack during WWII when the supply of plastic dwindled.
This set includes the compete set of 10 spice jars with original lids and plastic stand, which can be hung on the wall or placed on a flat surface. All but two of the original sifter tops are intact. The spices are: Black Pepper, Poultry Seasoning, Paprika, Allspice, Ginger, Roast Meat Seasoning, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Celery Salt and Garlic Salt. The original paper labels listing the spices and a separate label on the back of the jar explaining their uses are intact and in excellent condition. The plastic holder exhibits some scuffs from use but no cracks or breaks. A few of the lids show missing paint due to wear and contents of jar (salt). The glass jars are in great condition with no damages. The rack measures 8 1/2" in length and 3 1/2" in width; the jars are 3 1/2" in height. A great Deco era spice set for you collection or kitchen.
