Hand painted china is so beautiful if done in a factory decorating department, professional studio or a small home-studio environment. During the late 1800's and early 1900's china decorating became a favorite hobby of many American ladies who would purchase china blanks from various companies and create their own works of art.
This lovely hand painted footed bowl, circa 1900, was executed in a home studio. The background is muted shades of green, teal and rust against which is placed yellow and rust colored nasturtium flowers and shaded green leaves. The folded-over top and four feet form a bowl that measures 7 3/4" in length, 6 3/4" in width and 3 3/4" in height. Marked on the base with a "Crown over B R C Bavaria" which designates the Phillip Rosenthal Factory, Selb, Bavaria. The artist signature "L.K.Gill" appears beside the factory marking. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A lovely footed bowl.
