Hattie Carnegie (original last name was Kanengeister) was born in Vienna, Austria in 1886 and emigrated to the USA with her family at the age of six. Carnegie's jewelry designs were her own creations, she did not copy the fine jewelry trends appearing on the market and her jewelry was always expensive. The movie star, Joan Crawford, bought and wore much of the Carnegie jewelry. The Carnegie company was sold to Larry Josephs after her death in 1956 and closed in the 1970's.
One of her famous design lines was Egyptian Revival. This stunning pendant necklace is from that line, circa 1950's - 1960's. The fantastic pendant representing the Lotus flower measures 1 3/4" in width and 4 3/8" in length. The Lotus flower rises from the muddy waters to bloom, a symbol of purity and emblem of resurrection. Composed of heavy, gold-tone metal, the Lotus flower is enameled in shades of green, turquoise, lapis and coral Suspended from the flower are seven strings of faux turquoise and lapis elongated beads separated by gold-tone rings and decorated with tassel gold-tone end caps. The lovely gold-tone box chain necklace contains two each faux turquoise and lapis elongated beads. The clasp is a plain spring ring type. The back of the Lotus flower is marked "Hattie Carnegie" with a copyright symbol on an oval cartouche. The necklace is in mint condition; probably never worn. The original paper Hattie Carnegie label with hand-written price of $10.00 will be included with the item. Absolutely beautiful.
