Robert Levey, Davis Jaffe and Irving Landsman founded the Fashioncraft Jewelry Company in New York City in 1942. The company changed its name to Robert Originals, Inc about 1960. Their designs have natural and floral motifs with the use of faux pearls, colored glass, crystal beads and high quality imported rhinestones. The company closed in 1979. The "Original by Robert" mark was used from 1942 - 1979, with a copyright symbol added after 1955.
This lovely square, domed-shaped brooch is covered in large fuchsia baguette, narrow clear and purple navette rhinestones with a huge clear chaton set at the top of the dome. All backed rhinestones are prong set in gold-tone metal. The brooch measures 2 1/2" across and has a hook so it can be suspended from a simple chain or other appropriate necklace. The piece is marked "Original by Robert" with the copyright symbol on an artist pallet-shaped cartouche. Great sparkle and presentation. Near mint condition.
