The Weller Pottery Company was established in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1882, the outgrowth of a small one-kiln cabin works Sam Weller had operated in Fultonham. In 1895 the company entered the are pottery field. Through the years it grew into one of the largest potteries in the country and was home to many renowned designers and decorators. The depression brought a slow, steady decline in sales and in 1948 the pottery was closed.

This lovely vase in from their "Malvern" line, circa late 1920's to early 1930's The textured surface represents the bark of a tree in a range of tan to dark brown colors with mottled highlights of lighter shades. The raised motif is dark brown stems or vines with shaded green leaves with a large unopened floral bud in yellow. The overall finish is a soft matt glaze. The vase measures 5 3/4" in height, 2 1/2" across the base and 3" across the top. The base is incised by hand, "Weller Pottery" and an ink stamp "5". There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint condition.
