The Weller Pottery Company was established in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1882, the outgrowth of a small one-kiln cabin works Sam Weller had operated in Fultonham. In 1895 the company entered the art pottery field. Through the years it grew into one of the largest potteries in the country and was home to many renowned designers and decorators. The depression brought a slow, steady decline in sales and in 1948 the pottery was closed.

This lovely vase is from their "Wild Rose" line, circa mid-1930's. It stands an impressive 9 3/4" and measures 7 3/4" handle-to-handle, 4" across the base and 5" across the top. Finished in a matt glaze, the background is pastel apricot with shades of aquamarine. Two large wild rose flowers of soft pink with aquamarine centers and leaves adorn the front of the vase. The base in incised "Weller" in script and stamped "A" which denoted the decorator. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint condition.
