Victorian silver figural napkin rings, circa 1880 - 1900, are beautiful and fun to collect. These silver plated works of art are whimsical, as well as practical. During the Victorian era, they were a show of status, as well as functional. Each member of the family, or guest, would have their own figural napkin ring, usually representing their passions or hobbies.
This wonderful figural ring is engraved on the top with branches of leaves surrounding a cartouche engraved with the name, Julia. One one side of the ring stands a 3-dimensional figure of a Viking warrior with helmet and holding a large club in his hands. One the other side stands a large Karelian or "Bear Dog" with front paws up on the ring. The details on both figures are superb. The ring is not marked by the maker. There are no damaged or missing components. The condition is excellent with old unpolished patina. Great item.
