Pair of Ridgway Pottery "Coaching Days & Coaching Ways" Mugs
As early as 1792, the Ridgway brothers produced quality earthenwares in Shelton, Staffordshire, England. These mugs were produced during the early 1900's, from illustrations by Hugh Thomson & Herbert Railton, contained in the book "Coaching Days and Coaching Ways" by W. Outram Tristram, first published in 1888. Both mugs have as the major scene "Racing The Mail" and as the secondary scene, one has "Fresh Teams", while the other has "A Winter Days Amusement". The transfer scenes are black, against a caramel/brown background. Both are enhanced with silver resist rim, handle and band at base of mug. They stand 4" in height. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs; some very minor silver wear. The base is marked "Scenes from Coaching Days & Coaching Ways by Special Permission of Macmillan & Co. Ltd. Ridgway England".
