The "RS" is derived from its founder, Reinhold Schlegelmilch, but it was the work of his sons, Arnold and Ehrhand that made the mark famous. With factories in Suhl and Tillowitz, a majority of their production was exported from 1892 until the beginning of World War I. The Suhl factory closed before the end of World War I; the Tillowitz factory remained operational until the beginning of World War II.
