Pottery making for the Evans family began in Dexter Missouri in the mid-1940's, when Arthur Evans, son Ferrell and nephew Terrell started making pottery in the basement of Arthur's home. Later Ferrell and Terrell moved to Nevada and continued to produce pottery under the trade name "Dessert Sands" until 1962.
This very nice "mission swirl" small bowl stands 1 1/2" in height and 4" across. Hand-thrown with swirled colors of red-brown, blue, green and white which are created by adding color to the clay. The exterior is a matt-glaze, while the interior is a clear glaze. Very similar to the well-known Niloak pottery. It does not have the "Desert Sands" mark. There are no cracks. chips or repairs.
