Ridgways, Bedford Works, Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire Potteries was in existence from 1879 to 1920. Formerly Ridgway Sparks & Ridgway and continued as Ridgways (Bedford Works) Ltd. after 1920.
This wonderful partial tea set, circa 1880, is the Maiden Hair Fern pattern in brown transfer-ware. The group consists of (5) plates measuring 4 1/4" across; (3) saucers measuring 3 1/2" across; (1) cup measuring 1 5/8" in height; (1) waste bowl measuring 2 1/8" in height and 3 1/4" across; (1) covered sugar bowl measuring 2 3/4" in height and 3" in length and (1) lid for a teapot.
The registry mark indicated all the items were made in 1881 with the exception of the cup which is 1887. The stamped mark is "Ridgways - Stoke on Trent - Maiden Hair Fern". The pattern is sharp and detailed. There are no cracks, chips or repairs on these pieces. The lid for the teapot shows some discoloration.
