The William Adams & Sons (Potters) Ltd. of Tunstall & Stoke, Staffordshire, England, was organized in 1769 and has operated under several company names to this day. This very nice mush or large cup and saucer is the "Rose Terrace" transfer pattern, circa 1920 - 1940. The pattern consists of a bands of leaves overlaid with panels of rose and leaf designs in a deep pink or red with three different scenes of a Colonial couple in a garden or terrace setting in black. The cup measures 4" across and 2 1/2" deep and the saucer is 6 1/2" across. Both pieces are stamped "Rose Terrace" with a crown over "Adams Est'd 1657 England" a mark used from 1914 - 1940. There is also a stamp "Made for F B" which would have been the logo of an import company. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; some light crazing.
