The Podmore Walker & Co. pottery, (Company being Enoch Wedgwood), Tunstall, Staffordshire, was operational from 1834 - 1859. Well Street, circa 1834-1853; Amicable Street, circa 1850-1859; and Swan Bank, circa 1853-1859. A complete restyling in 1860 as Wedgwood & Co., with Enoch Wedgwood becoming the senior partner. The company trademarked their wares "Pearl Stone Ware" as it was more durable than earthenware and fired at a higher temperature.

This wonderful plate is the "Washington Vase" pattern, composed of a central scene of several large garden urns, foliage and historic buildings in the background. The border has five cartouches with urn and buildings, separated by scrolls, floral and textured design. The oval and ribbon stamped mark reads "Pearl Stone Ware - Washington Vase - P.W.& Co." It measures 8 3/4" across in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or repairs; light overall crazing.
