Kate of Hollywood ceramic studio of North Hollywood, California, was founded in the early 1940's by Katherine (Kay) Schueftan. Her studio created hand-decorated figurines and figure-vases. Prior to opening her own studio, Kay had been a decorator of the Hedi Schoop ceramic establishment. This rather scarce wall pocket/vase is the bust of a stylish lady adorned in a wide-brimmed, dusty-pink hat with attached roses and leaves, firmly secured with a large blue bow. Her dark black hair, brown eyes and ruby lips compliment her flawless skin-tones This figure measures 5" in height and can be hung on the wall or set on a flat surface. The back is incised "2145A" and the base is marked "345 - Kaye" and "MJ". It also still has the original foil label of the retailer "Dorette Saltzman Products - Los Angeles 5 - California". There are no cracks, chips or repairs; minor light crazing.
