Sarreguemines Majolica "The Black Bill" Face Jug
Sarreguemines, France,is the location of Utzschneider and Company, founded about 1800, producers of majolica, dinnerware, figurines and novelties. This great majolica face jug, #7891, circa 1880 - 1900, is named "The Black Bill" for the black bill on the blue and red conductor-type cap the smiling character with up-turned collar is wearing. Made in several sizes, this jug measures 5 1/2" in height and 5 1/4" from front to back. The base is stamped "7891".. There are no cracks, chips, repairs or evidence of crazing. Great face jug.
