Satin Glass derives its name from the items' velvety matt finish which is achieved though the application of an acid bath. This procedure has been used by many companies since the late 1800's, both here and abroad, on many types of colored art glass items. This lovely piece of Victorian art glass, circa 1880 - 1900. The color is a soft lemon-yellow shading to nearly white at the base of the item; the interior is white. The round form curves into seven gentle scallops around the top edge, while the body is enhanced by slightly swirled ribs. It stands 5" tall and 5" across. Hand blown with a nice pontil. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs. Lovely in all respects.
