Red Wing Potteries, Inc. were operational from 1936 until 1967 producing art pottery for the mass market at affordable prices. Beginning in 1942 Red Wing introduced a series called Hand Painted Pottery using heavier stoneware clay. What made these items unique was that instead of the decorations being under the glaze, these designs were enamel paints applied onto the already glazed surface. For this reason, collectors have difficulty finding examples with the decorations completely intact. This lovely salad bowl in the "Peasant" design has colors of vivid Yellow, rust, orange, black, green, blue and pink against the blue-green pottery. It measures 11" across and 3 1/2" high. Impressed mark on the base "Red Wing - U.S.A." There are no cracks, chips or repairs and only several minor spots of missing enamel decoration.
