End 18th- beginning 19th-century original engraving of a biblical subject entitled "Eliezer et Rebecca". Engraved by french engraver Auguste Boucher-Desnoyers (1779-1875), after a painting by renowned painter Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665), currently held in the Louvre. The etching is mounted in an elegant "passe-partout", especially made by our current framer. The mounting is custom made, done as they used to do in the past, with hand-laid ink wash, in acid-free (neutral Ph) material.
Auguste Boucher-Desnoyers (1779-1875) was one of the most eminent of modern French engravers. He engraved many of the masterpieces of the Louvre under Louis XVIII and Napoleon.
This etching is exceptionally rare and has been cleaned and restored by a hired professional to give it this clean and elegant appearance.
