A wonderful 19th century Ironstone Plate with scalloped rim, decorated in the very popular Chinese style, with a flying bird and flowers. It has an underglaze brown transfer and cobalt blue with overglaze enamels of light green, yellow, orange, pink, light blue and brown.
The plate measures about 9" (22.5 cm) in diameter. Excellent condition. No chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs. There are some utensil marks. There is an "in-the-making" firing flaw above the foot rim. The plate rings when tapped.
This pattern and these marks are identified as Ashworth in the database of the Transferware Collectors Club. The name they have assigned the pattern is: "Floral Chinoiserie with Bird". They date the marks as "from 1860".
