This is a very pretty Minton cup and saucer set dating about 1840. The shape can be seen in Berthoud's "Compendium of British Cups" on page 176, plate 1054. He says, "Q shape in the Minton shape book, with embossed leaves on the flared lip." The hand painted pattern number is 3257, in keeping with Minton wares of that era.

These were the days when the retailers ruled, and many potteries did not mark their wares; but had to put the retailer's name on their products. The saucer is boldly marked for the Retailer, Green & Sons, 10 & 11 St. Paul's Churchyard, London.

The condition is excellent. There are no chips, no crazing, and no repairs. There is an "in-the-making" firing crack on the foot rim of the cup. Despite that, both the cup and saucer ring when tapped. There is wear to the gilding of the saucer, only.

The cup is 2-1/2" high, the saucer is 5-5/" in diameter.
