Antique English Cup & Saucer, Welsh Folk Customs, 19th C Porcelain - image 1 of 8

This interesting antique cup and saucer depicts 3 scenes of folk customs in Wales. Welsh traditional costume is worn, and the cup shows "Sabbath Day in Wales" on one side, and "Returning from the Wedding" on the other side. Those scenes were easy enough to understand.

However, the saucer shows a scene called "A Bidding in Wales" , and I had to research the meaning of that one. It seems that when a couple became betrothed, a pamphlet, known as a "bidding letter" was printed, and distributed at market and outside the churches on Sunday, so that everyone could know of the event.

Condition? The transfers on the cup are bright and unworn. The transfer on the saucer shows some wear. The saucer has no chips, cracks, or repairs, and rings when tapped. The cup has a short (about 1/2"), almost invisible hairline crack near the lip. I have tried to show a close-up of it in the final photo. The crack is just to the left of the Groom's upraised stick. The cup has no other cracks, chips, or repairs. There are a few spots of discoloration in the bottom of the cup. Both pieces are unmarked.
