This very thin and fine box has a deeply chip-carved lid. The top and the bottom are fastened with tiny wood pegs. The laps or fingers of the bent wood box are "sewn" together with a woven material.
The box is 4-3/8" long (11 cm), 3" (7.8 cm) wide and 2-1/8" high (5.3 cm). It is in excellent, original condition, except for having new pegs to replace the original ones which held the top of the box together. It is very fine and fragile, weighing only 1.6 ounces.
The box is likely 19th C or earlier. Similar boxes can be found at the excellent website DigitalMuseum of Norway.
