This gorgeous Porcelain Ornithological Cabinet Plate was hand painted with amazing precision. The blue, white and gold "tiles" start small at the center and gradually increase in size. The gilding is raised. The exotic bird looks as if it could fly off the plate! There are 5 cartouches of hand painted flowers surrounded by raised gold, as is the central design.
The 23.5 cm (9-1/4") plate is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. The plate rings when tapped.
There are 3 incised marks on the back. They look to me like 2 "V's" and an "H". I date this plate c 1825.
