Orange is quite an unusual color to find in a bat print. The subject matter is interesting: a young woman and a rather large cupid who is offering her hearts out of his basket. The bowl dates c.1825-30.
It was made by John & William Ridgway. The only mark on the back is the pattern number 2/1447. For a similar Ridgway bat print, see the photo on page 97 of Geoffrey Godden's "Ridgway Porcelains". The cupid shown on that bowl is very similar to this one. The pattern number on that piece is 2/1399.
This large bowl was part of a tea service. It is 8-1/2" in diameter, and quite shallow.
It is in very good condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. There is heavy wear to the orange lustre border trim (in fact, it has disappeared in places), and there are utensil marks to the print.
