What a pretty hand painted teapot! This is 19th C teapot is a rare survivor of Minton's return to the production of bone china in 1824, after a hiatus of 8 years or so.

Two versions of this Minton shape can be found on page 257 of "A Directory of British Teapots", by Berthoud and Maskell. This is their description: "...flattened melon shape with moulded spout, fruit finial, complex handle, gadrooned collar, body and base, 15 hole triangular strainer". They date this teapot c. 1825. It measures about 10" from spout to handle.

The pattern number 677 is handpainted in puce on the base. The number agrees with Minton's wares of this period.

This teapot is in excellent condition with only these two caveats: 1.) a few nicks to the end of the spout, with gilding wear there. 2.) two small and one large chip to the interior mouth, (not seen when lid is in place).

There are no other chips, cracks, discolorations, or repairs. 99% of the gilding is intact. The strawberry finial and "complex" handle are perfect and original. The teapot and lid both ring when tapped.
