This gorgeous old Portrait Brooch is large: it measures 2-1/8" long and 1-3/4" wide. Although this lovely Portrait Brooch appears to be hand painted, I think it is a very well done combination of transfer and painting.
It is gold plated. The clasp has a lock. There is a fitting at the top so the piece may also be worn as a pendant.
The painting which inspired this brooch is by Angelica Kauffmann and is titled, "Portrait of a Woman Dressed as a Vestal Virgin".
Both the porcelain and the metal fitting are in excellent condition. No identifying marks. I believe this piece to be c.1900-1920.
